Deux Chevaux

I was very flattered recently to be invited as a guest designer on the Ready Steady Stamp challenge. The brief was Grand Prix/Cars and my project had to incorporate the following:-

So, 'what to do?' I thought, quite a tough challenge, but I came up with this 2CV theme. Of all the cars I have owned the Citroen 2CV was my favourite, or I should say favourites as I have owned two. Here is a (very faded) photo of the first one I owned, approx 26 years ago!

These cars, sadly no longer in production, had some very special features-

1.The canvas sunroof that you could roll back and hold in place with straps.
2.The hinged windows that were held in the 'open' position with a kind of popper.
3.The removable seats (great when you had no deck chairs!)
4.The jack that also served as a cranking handle.
5.The horizontal gear stick.
and the ability to go from 0-60mph in one day!

As you can no doubt tell, I'm quite nostalgic about this vehicle and was inspired to produce this card as a sort of 'homage' to the 2CV.

The Paris-Persepolis (Iran) Rally in 1971 was promoted by Citroen and must have been a huge adventure.

This card was made with an image I found on a 2CV site and the larger car image was taken from my old car handbook! I painted it with Twinkling H20's and Cosmic Shimmer. The compass is a Clear Choice stamp, and as I had no UTEE I embossed it with clear EP about 8 times in the hope of making it appear like glass. However, as usual it doesn't look at all shiny in the photo. The white mat is inked with Mustard Seed D.I. and I inked the wheels of a toy car borrowed from my nephew and ran the car over the card to get the impression of tyre tracks.

Can't imagine who will be the recipient of this card as I don't know anyone who likes 2CV's as much as me. Don't forget to have a look at the fab creations the design team at RSS have come up with.

It's lovely to read about your much loved former cars and really gave me a chuckle when I saw how you made the tyre tracks.

  7. Hi Fiona

G.R.E.A.T card they always remind me of comedy programmes where they used to finish up in a skip outside someones house, and also have heard them called French peasants cars.

Look forward to seeing you on your days off.
