All Hearts And Flowers

Well I took the plunge and joined a gym and earlier today I had my induction with a  muscle bound instructor who put me through my paces.  Blimey, it's fair to say I sweated buckets and at one point felt in danger of falling off the treadmill with dizziness. But no, I persevered and managed 3km's before staggering off it in search of a sitting down machine where I could recover.  My colleague (a long standing gym member) told me I would feel invigorated afterwards but all I felt was knackered...it was a good move to do the housework before I went.

This afternoon I managed nothing more strenuous than making a card for this week's Less Is More challenge - Hearts... with the added stipulation One Layer.  Here's what I did.

I also did one in another colourway.

I made masks for the petal/leaf with an Xcut heart die and hand cut a mask for the flower stem, then sponged ink through the aperture. Liquid Pearls provided some texture in the centres.   The sentiment is from a set by Hero Arts or Penny Black, can't remember which.

I had company whilst writing this post...do you think someone is feeling neglected?  Poor Prudy.

There are gazillions of songs about hearts so it was difficult to choose but I hope you approve of this one. Wishing you all a jolly good week. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  2. I DO approve, indeed I do! Love that song. Another good one for belting, like As Long As He Needs Me. Which I sang to the males of the household when we got back from the theatre last night, complete with faux cock-er-nee accent. They loved it... I think.
Anyway, back to you. Well done on the gym induction, though it sounds a bit hellish to me! No pain no gain, love, if you want that Jamie Lee Curtis look (Hollywood optional...) Back in the day when I was fitter and exercised regularly, I never, ever experienced that alleged endorphin rush afterwards. I probably did have more energy over all, but the actual exercise itself remained hard and exhausting - but I liked the smug feeling of having done it! Hope it gets easier for you.

The card is lovely, a great use of the heart motif, and poor Prudy needs some fuss, she looks rather downhearted, though very gorgeous! xxxx

I've read a bunch of your previous posts and really get a kick out of your stories and pix, as well as the music choices. Glad to met you! Anne, from Maine, USA

  8. Beautiful card but you know what? I'd like a tutorial! I don't know what a mask is. Is it like a stencil? I know nothing about card making but I'd like to see the process!
Well done for going to the gym. I'd have to lie down all afternoon eating crisps to recover so it's a self defeating behaviour for me. x

  10. Hi Fiona. Enjoyed reading your post about going to the gym ... good for you putting in 3km on the treadmill before stopping for a rest :)

Even though you were totally knackered (love that!) ... you managed to make two GORGEOUS cards. The design is amazing and I love both color combos. Great job! Thanks for joining us at ATCAS. Loll

  11. 3km sounds like a really good start to me! I mainly feel relieved after, to be honest, no big buzz, but do eventually begin to feel better, and think I've a bit more energy. Not like my gym bunny sisters though, who get seriously grumpy if they don't exercise 5 times a week. Can't imagine that.
Love your cards Fiona, the heart petals are so pretty the way you've done them. Prudy's obviously feeling a bit left out, bless her! They know how to get your attention don't they - I was trying to wrap a parcel last night when Humbug came along and stubbornly sat right on top of it. Needy cat! Hope you have a good week xx

  14. I've just found your blog and had a read back as far as the family picnic. You are a very funny writer and I really like your style, the cards you make and the poor sad puss looking all neglected. I spend most of my crafting time heaving one cat or another off the WIP or snatching back ribbons. The latest was my young cat biting the thread at the top of the sewing machine!

Look forward to reading more of your writing.

  15. How focused of you to join the gym Fiona! Gyms always seem like hard work to me so I just go dancing instead. I love the way you've made a flower using a heart mask - very clever! And Prudy is a darling. Vicky x

  21. I love your thinking...using the hearts to create the flower, clever stuff indeedy.
What a beautiful companion you have :0)
And have you noticed how there is a sudden influx of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac on adverts and programme trailers lately. We must be in for FM having a big revival of their music/headlining a festival or something I guess.
